Susan Matyas, MS, DVM, is an experienced small animal veterinarian who joined the Ross Hospital for Animals team in 2021. Dr. Matyas received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Ohio State University in 1990, followed by her Master of Science in Microbiology from Michigan State University in 1995 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1998.

With over 23 years of experience, Dr. Matyas is skilled in all aspects of small animal medicine but maintains a particular interest in veterinary dentistry and cardiac and abdominal ultrasound, having completed several advanced training courses in these areas. In addition to her clinical experience, Dr. Matyas continues to foster her professional development and stay up-to-date on the latest advances in veterinary medicine through regular continuing education courses and memberships to professional veterinary organizations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, Southeastern Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association.

In her free time, Dr. Matyas enjoys reading, cooking, sports, participating in her sons’ school activities, and spending time with her husband, two sons, and five rescue pets – Kobi, Violet, Olive, Stella, and Spike. Kobi is a three-legged mixed breed from South Carolina who has a very interesting rescue story and now enjoys life as a couch potato. Violet’s mother was saved from the harsh Michigan winter in Pontiac and taken into Michigan Animal Rescue League to have her puppies. She was brought into the Matyas household when she was four months old and now is a 60lb bundle of energy. Olive is a Chihuahua mix who came from K9 Stray Rescue in Oxford. The three dogs are allowed to share the house under close supervision of two sibling cats, Stella and Spike, raised from bottle-fed orphans.
